# Postal Codes Dataset for Italy (IT)

This dataset contains Italian postal codes (CAP — Codice di Avviamento Postale) — 18,415
rows covering 4,735 distinct postal codes across 20 regions and 107 provinces.

**Granularity note:** CAP is not one-to-one with place — large cities (Roma, Milano, ...)
have many CAPs and many comuni/localities share a single CAP. The primary key is
(`postal_code`, `place_name`), never `postal_code` alone.

**Note:** This dataset is a sample containing the first 100 rows. If you need access to the complete dataset, please contact our sales team for more information: datahub@datopian.com

## Data Sources

Postal codes, place names, and coordinates are sourced from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0), a
community-maintained open geographic database. `admin_code1` (region code) is derived from
the region name against the official ISO 3166-2:IT code table, rather than taken from the
source's own internal numbering — see `datapackage.json` for the schema. Region names are
kept exactly as the source spells them (e.g. "Abruzzi" rather than "Abruzzo",
"Friuli-Venezia Giulia" with a hyphen) — only the code was corrected.

## Usage

The dataset files are available in CSV format and can be accessed and downloaded using the links provided in the `datapackage.yml`.
